The path for me – my journey

It was the type of day that was fated to be different from the start in many life changing ways.

My brother had taken my young daughters away on a camping trip for the weekend and I in return was looking after his three dogs. My husband brought me a cup of tea in bed, ‘What a lovely start to a bright summers morning’ one would think. Then chaos hit.

What is the latest information regarding Coconut Oil?

I was teaching my Wednesday morning plates class and we were discussing some of the benefits of coconut oil.
One of my clients who is from Malaysia said that in her country whenever the children had a temperature they gave them a teaspoon of coconut oil and it brought the temperature down.
I had not heard of coconut used in this way before.
It lead me to thinking….
What other amazing uses does it have?

NEW - Five minute fitness videos page

Over the past few months I've been making five minute fitness videos for my Facebook group.  I've had some great feedback - people are finding them useful and challenging!   I know not everyone uses Facebook, and it's useful to have all the videos one easy click away, so I've set up a new section at the top of the blog  - Five Minute Fitness Videos.  Pop over and have a go!  Do leave me some feedback here or in my Facebook group about what video you'd like to see next.

Read more about my five minute fitness videos in this blog post - here.

The story behind my Five Minute Fitness videos

br />

I teach various fitness classes throughout the week with loads of varied techniques to people ranging in age from 16 to 70. My clients are extremely loyal to my classes and some attend four times a week.

I wanted to give some thing back, so as a thank you I decided to give out nutritional tips, exercise advice and general health guidelines.  You’ll find these by joining my Facebook group and increasingly here on the blog.

I then decided to do a few five-minute exercise films so that my clients could do them at home to aid their workout sessions.  The one above is all about how to do squats that will tone the lower body.

I love being outside and as the workouts that I do are predominantly inside I decided to film in my garden……… fantastic idea!

Easier said than done.

I love hearing the birds singing away but I felt we were sometimes competing to be heard during filming.  Also my neighbours who are lovely also have a right to enjoy their gardens in peace too.

It is surprising how even a microwave pinging travels through the neighbourhood to appear in my little five minute film…or someone chatting whilst hanging out the washing…radio on etc…but in reality this is real life and that’s the way it is, also my home is that busy on occasion my only space is my pretty little garden.

I hope you enjoy working outside with me.
Do let me know what you think.
Do let me know what other exercises you would like to see.

Bye for now

My Energizing Smoothie by Fit 4 You

At this time of year and going into the winter months our energy levels can dip a little so the following is a great booster. As the fruits are not available throughout the year try freezing them to use when needed.

Ingredients:

A tub of Blueberries

A tub of Strawberries
A tub of Blackberries

A tub of Raspberries

A tub of Pomegranate seeds

A tablespoon of Honey

A medium sized tub of natural low fat yogurt

A Tablespoon of Coconut.

Add 2 to 3 Apples

Method:
Add all the ingredients to a blender and zap until consistency is smooth. Have a glass immediately and then add the rest to empty yoghurt or humous pots and freeze till needed.

Do let me know your own ideas for beating the winter blues as I am sure you will have loads of recipes and great ideas xxx

Summer Tone 2012 feedback

I set up the series of Summer Tone workshops as a way for clients and class members to keep up their fitness out of term-time.  It was a bit of an experiment - but one that was a success!  I've had some lovely feedback - here's a selection - thanks guys!

Hi Annette, just to say thank you for this morning's summer tone at charnwood waters, I have not laughed that much at a class before. The people where great, the weather was wonderful, it was so different having the class outside, we must do it again. Thanks again for a very enjoyable morning and also for the coffee

The summer boot camp sessions have been fab!  I have found the sessions really enjoyable and working outside has been really motivating.  I feel that you have catered well for all levels and it's been good to mix some workout with toning and pilates. Stomping up beacon hill really got my heart rate going but I felt really motivated to keep going at a pace by you and also those around me.  I would definitely sign up for another round of boot camp in the future.
Thanks and see you in the morning for the final session.

Hi Annette,
I thought the summer fitness sessions were great. It was lovely meeting up with people from other groups and getting to know people from the Friday morning group better. I like the way that you make the sessions open to all levels of fitness and ability.  I really liked being outdoors and that all the sessions were so well planned. I liked the hand out for the first Beacon Hill session and that you talked us through it. I would have been happy to be reminded of all that just as thoroughly at the start of the second Beacon Hill session.
See you in September. Thanks.
Jan

Recently my son and I participated in a few of Annette’s outdoor walking modules. My son 13 and myself 35 and overweight found that Annette catered for the different ends of the fitness scale (the class also being attended by ladies/gentlemen of retirement age) adapting her exercise’s for the individual’s ability. After having to drag my son from his bed on all of the occasions he later admitted he had thoroughly enjoyed it and felt welcomed by the entire group. The atmosphere was friendly and Annette gives gentle nudges to keep you moving in the right direction. I would certainly be keen to sign up to more classes like this.

Eat well and train well

Training burns calories - listen to your body and eat when you are hungry.  An ideal training diet is high in carbohydrates, low in fat with a good mix of protein, vitamins and minerals.

All foods provide energy (calories) but don’t waste time with empty calories - make sure each mouthful is nutritious. Try to eat fresh, natural ingredients,’ good’ calories if you can and select any processed foods carefully, checking the labels for those lowest in hidden fats and salts.  Remember to drink plenty of fluid throughout the day : )

Plan meals and snacks around your exercise as you will fatigue quickly on empty and so won’t achieve the best results.

Eat and drink immediately after an endurance session.  Recovery is extremely important so rest after a hard work out session to help the muscles to repair.

What makes a healthy training diet?

A lovely place to stay!

A warm welcome greeted us on our arrival at Ellerslee Guest House situated near the centre of Skegness. Tracy, a very warm and likeable character who instantly makes you feel at ease in her home, owns the guesthouse. A massive bonus was the 5 star rating for hygiene and the three course breakfast - which I ate all three courses every morning; note to self 'must get back to classes ASAP'.

If you feel like getting away for a couple of days do have a look at her website and I think you will find it as welcoming and as pleasant as we did.
